D of E Training Expedition to the Black Mountains

This year fifteen Cranleighans were joined by five students from The Royal School and Tormead who wished to join in with our particular brand of Outdoor Education. The weather in South Wales was predictably Welsh and the ground was characteristically damp and muddy. However, not a whinge was heard nor a grumble expressed as tents got wetter and sleeping bags soggier. All parties seemed to have a genuine learning experience and many mentioned the night navigation exercise as a particular highlight.

I was hugely impressed with all our chaps as they threw themselves into the practice and learned how to cope with relentless Welsh clag, while retaining good spirits. This was particularly brought home by the plight of another group who joined us on one of our campsites, whose leaders had abandoned them, who lacked adequate food, tents and kit for the night and who needed vast amounts of our tlc. As ever, Cranleigh rose to the challenge and they were suitably fed and looked after.

Numerous fingers are crossed for decent conditions during the summer assessed expeditions when we return to Wales.
