Tom and Ed in National Youth Choir
VIth Formers Tom Chevis and Edward Griffiths recently had the opportunity to sing in the famous acoustics of Birmingham’s Symphony Hall. Both have been members of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain organisation since they were at prep school and they joined over 600 members (past and present) of the NYCGB in a concert to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the organisation.
The concert came at the end of an eight-day residential course in Banbury and opened with the rousing ‘Blest Pair of Sirens’ by Sir Hubert Parry conducted by Sir David Willcocks, president of NYCGB. The concert, compered by Richard Stilgoe, also included world premieres by Richard Allain and Eric Whitacre as well as music by Bob Chilcott (who conducted his ‘Look to this Day’) and John Rutter (who conducted his Winchester Te Deum). Past members of the NYC include Jo Goldsmith (who visited Cranleigh with the Swingle Singers), members of G4 and All Angels and, many of past and present members of The King’s Singers.
