Climbing at Stone Farm

On Sunday 11th May a group of five Cranleighans, together with Dr and Mrs Tyrrell and the young Youngs spent a very enjoyable day climbing at Stone Farm near East Grinstead. This small sandstone outcrop is the closest “real” climbing to Cranleigh and proved to be a very popular destination for a little escapism before the start of exams.
The standard of climbing was varied, with something for everyone from the genuine rock athletes (Dr. Tyrell and Archie Cameron-Blackie) to more modest, yet challenging, routes for the likes of myself. Steph Wolstenholme and Abbie Meaker particularly enjoyed bouldering on some of the shady slabs and James Allen participated in a master-class in grunting as he and Archie attempted to girdle the main pinnacle.
The sun, the nutritious packed lunches and the company made for a wonderfully relaxing day. As the afternoon drew to a close we were all able to limp back to the bus, nursing our various scrapes and strains, feeling unwound, happy and fit to tackle the impending paper-based challenges with equal determination.
