Further Academic Success for Cranleigh
There were scenes of delight and excitement on August 14th for the 117 UVI A Level pupils at Cranleigh School. The pupils passed almost 50% of the exams taken (over 370 subjects) at A grade, and almost 80% were passed at either A or B grade. The pass rate was 100% and these figures very nearly matched the best-ever results achieved at the School last summer.
A delighted Head, Guy Waller, commented, “It is really pleasing for us to see the pupils fulfil, and in some cases surpass, their academic potential with the A level grades they secured. We pride ourselves at Cranleigh on the collaborative way our staff and pupils work on these courses and it is great to see so many of our leavers fulfilling their plans for university and beyond. Whilst we are pleased to have nearly 10% of our year-group going on to Oxford or Cambridge, it is just as satisfying to see so many of our other pupils going on to courses of their choice – often courses not available at Oxbridge – at other top universities.”
Mr Waller felt that the A level results this year represent an appropriate way to welcome a new school year in which the School will open its new Academic Centre for the teaching of Science and Languages. He added: “Although at Cranleigh we also lay strong emphasis on the values of other educational experience – sporting, artistic and the performing arts – academics always stand at the heart of what we do and these results certainly give some of our younger pupils plenty to aspire to.”
