Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Guess!
Loveday won the 2008 inter-House Schools Challenge quiz competition in a thrillingly close finish. They were 10 points ahead (having lost a lead of 100 after getting 8 of the first 10 correctly answered starters) but East got the final starter and the first follow-up to lead 400-390. East, captained by dinner-jacketed James McEntee then failed to get the next follow-up correct and Loveday captain levelled the scores with his answer of ‘Honi soit qui mal y pense’ to level the scores. It was then down to East to translate the phrase for victory but it was again passed over to Will for a 410-400 win. The other team members were: Andy Rose, Ed Stokes and Lawrence Harlow.
Earlier matches saw Loveday score 560 in their semi-final against Cubitt and East reaching 680 against South, who had scored 590 in beating West in the first-ever match between the girls’ Houses. North had taken a 340-320 lead over Cubitt in their first round encounter, only to lose 480-370.
