The Trevor Abbott Sports Centre was opened by Sir Richard Branson in June 2002. The main hall, which is 35 metres square, can be used for a variety of different sports:
badminton (8 courts) basketball (2 courts) cricket (3 nets) fencing (2 pistes) netball (2 courts) tennis (2 courts) volleyball (2 courts)
It also provides an excellent venue for indoor hockey, soccer and lacrosse.
In addition, the Trevor Abbott Sports Centre houses a conditioning room (with various cardiovascular machines and fixed weights), a dance studio (with sprung floor, mirrors and audio system), and extensive changing, washing and administrative facilties.
The building was named after Trevor Abbott, an Old Cranleighan and member of the Governing Body, who died tragically in 1997. He had been a key figure in driving the project forward and it was therefore entirely appropriate that the Sports Centre was named after him. Generous financial support for the building came from many Old Cranleighans and other friends of the School or, indeed, of Trevor himself. The facility is a fitting tribute to an outstanding Old Cranleighan.
Since its first appearance, the TASC (as it is known to most of today's Cranleighans) has played a pivotal role in the regeneration of Cranleigh's sporting reputation. Many local children also take advantage of the sporting opportunities run from the TASC in school holidays. Cranleigh aims to share its facilities as much as possible with the local community and to make a strong contribution to the life of the village.
