Sport

The School’s ten boys’ teams take part in a full programme of Saturday and midweek matches, with strong opposition that includes the likes of Tonbridge, Winchester, Wellington and Charterhouse. Cranleigh is currently enjoying a particularly successful period in cricket, with the 1st XI being undefeated for the last two years. Several of the pupils have been selected for county teams, with Stuart Meaker gaining international recognition for England U19s, and being awarded a full county contract with Surrey CCC.

Girls’ cricket also flourishes at the School, with a regular programme of midweek matches throughout the Summer term.

All the 20 outdoor nets, and five squares, have recently been upgraded to ECB recommendations, including a magnificent new six-bay area (with full synthetic run-ups) alongside the 1st XI pitch.

The main bulk of the coaching takes place in the Summer term, but one-to-one and group coaching sessions are also organized during the two winter terms by the School’s full-time cricket professional Stuart Welch (ex-MCC young professionals’ coach) and other ECB level 2 coaches, making use of the indoor nets in the School’s sports centre.

The School has enjoyed cricket tours to Sri Lanka and Kenya in recent years, with the next tour planned for Easter 2009.
