| The School’s 9-hole par 3 golf course is notoriously difficult to score well on. However, it provides a fantastic opportunity for pupils of all ages and standards to improve their game. The course also has a putting green, and practice nets. Throughout the year the course is busy, either with pupils arranging their own games, or when they take part in organised activity sessions.
During the Summer term and first half of the Michaelmas term the School golf team competes regularly against various schools in the South East, often playing on first-class championship courses. Regular outings to Bramley Golf Club are arranged for senior pupils in the golf team, either to play on the course there or to receive professional coaching. The team also competes annually in the HMC foursomes competition, and in the Independent Schools competition held at Pulborough. At the end of the Summer term, a small group is selected for a mini-tour to Deal.
A popular feature of the golfing calendar is the trip to the British Open, where Cranleigh has operated one of the scoreboards on the 18th green for a number of years.
The recently formed girls’ golf team took part in their first match last year, and with more matches planned in the future we hope to build on this new initiative in the years to come.
