A Spiritual Life
A well-balanced individual will have a sense of spiritual awareness along with academic achievement and physical ability. The experience of wonder, an understanding of right and wrong, an appreciation of the divine, and respect for the worth of each human being; these things are the invisible glue holding our community together. These values are learned in every part of our lives, but the School Chapel, and the activities connected with it, are a particular focus for our spiritual development.

Chapel Services
The School meets together in Chapel on four occasions each week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays a short service is held at which various members of Common Room speak and lead the prayers. Members of the Upper Sixth read the lesson and other members of the School often contribute. This term’s programme may be accessed below.

On Friday mornings the Director of Music conducts Congregational Practice. This is a popular community event in the life of the School and reflects the Cranleighan’s enthusiasm for a good sing!

On Sunday evenings there is a service of Evensong for the boarding community to which we welcome a visiting speaker. The Chapel Choir leads our singing as well as performing an anthem. Pupils read the lesson and lead the prayers. Parents and other friends of the School are always welcome.

Holy Communion Services
These take place each week on Fridays at 7.45am in Chapel and occasionally on other special days in the church’s calendar.

Christianity Explored and the Confirmation Course
Christianity Explored is a six-week series of meetings, which begins in the second half of the Michaelmas term, aimed at introducing the Christian faith and its meaning for today in an informal and lively setting. Those attending the Confirmation Course start with this series. There is a mixture of presentations and small group discussions. Coke and crisps are served and various members of staff assist.

The Confirmation Course runs each year from November to May, with weekly meetings on Tuesdays at 5.30pm in the Reading Room. The first six sessions are the Christianity Explored course and these are then followed by a further six sessions and various other events.

The eXchange
This is an informal meeting open to all, held each Wednesday after supper in the Reading Room. People gather from 6.15pm and there is a short talk, with questions, often by an outside speaker, at 6.30pm.
