Housemistress - Mrs Ruth Frett
Mrs Ruth Frett -
Deputy Housemistress - Miss Sarah Greenwood
Miss Sarah Greenwood has been at Cranleigh for ten years, having previously taught at Taunton School, Somerset. She has been Deputy for seven years and lives very close by on the campus overlooking the cricket nets. This is very appropriate since one of her great interests is girls’ cricket, which is growing in strength at the School. She is involved in a good deal of other sports coaching for the girls and teaches maths and PE. In any spare time that she might have she enjoys playing golf.
Resident Tutor - Miss Sally Peers
Miss Sally Peers joined us at Cranleigh in 2007, teaches Maths and is involved in coaching girls’ sports including kayaking and cross country and can frequently be seen out running - apparently effortlessly. We were extremely proud to see her complete the Devizes to Westminster canoe race, at Easter 2008, when she partnered the Chaplain.
TUTORS
Mrs Val Burnett, who had a previous career in the law, taught here some years ago and then returned to Cranleigh having been teaching in Hong Kong. She has recently had little Jack and now teaches part-time. She is involved in sports coaching as well as running the HIstory Society. Her husband Ed is Head of Economics and Business Studies and is Deputy Housemaster of North.
Mrs Helen Burns joined us September 2009 from St Edmund's School in Hindhead. She has many years of teaching experience, mostly in the field of Special Education. As well as tutoring in South, she is the Learning Support Coordinator in the school. She also runs the Wednesday afternoon 'Interact' group, where Cranleigh pupils have the opportunity to work alongside students from a local special school to produce ideas for community projects. Helen has a son in East.
Mrs Elizabeth Delliere originally came to Cranleigh in 1988, as a pupil – and has now returned as a member of Common Room, teaching in the Economics and Business Studies Department. She combines this role with that of Dircetor of Communications for the School – but also welcomes any opportunity to head out onto the lacrosse pitch, given the opportunity.
Miss Emma Herbert joined Cranleigh in 2006. She teaches both Maths and RS and enjoys spending a large amount of time on the sports field, coaching hockey, tennis and swimming. She also has a great interest in music, both playing the piano and composing, the evidence of which we have enjoyed in South Music Evenings.
Dr Claire Jackson joined us in 2007. She has had experience in various other schools, latterly teaching part-time at Aldenham School while helping her husband to run a boys’ boarding House there. She is Head of Biology and her husband Rod is Head of Classics at Cranleigh; they have two small daughters and a considerably larger dog.
Mrs Mags Maunder has been teaching at Cranleigh and associated with South for four years. She was instrumental in setting up the Textiles Department in the Art School, having previously taught at Heathside School in Weybridge. Her other great love is ‘treading the boards’ and she has been associated with amateur dramatics for many years. Both these skills mean that she is often involved in the wardrobe department for School productions.
Mrs Sally MacLaughlin has been at Cranleigh for eight years having previously been at St Catherine’s in Bramley. She became full time here five years ago and is Head of Lacrosse and Netball in the Senior and Prep School, whilst also supporting maths teaching in the Lower School. She brings a great deal of expertise to her coaching, having competed herself at a very high level in various sports, including playing netball for England for nine seasons. She has two daughters, Hannah and Laura, at the School.
Miss Kate Morland came to Cranleigh in September 2009, having graduated from Cambridge with a degree in Classics. She teaches Latin and Classical Civilisation, as well as lacrosse. She loves all sports, especially tennis, lacrosse and skiing, and has played for the junior England lacrosse team. Kate also enjoys singing, and playing the piano and oboe.
Miss Carolyn Nicholls had a previous existence as an accountant before joining Cranleigh in 1984 to teach Maths. She has held various posts of responsibility over the years, is currently Head of Squash and has a keen interest in all girls’ sports. Her personal interests also revolve around sport - particularly squash, lawn tennis, real tennis and golf. Her daughter Chloe is currently at the Prep School.
Mrs Ngaere Sutton has been working at Cranleigh for eight years having trained in New Zealand. She is Deputy Director of Art and teaches print making. We have several examples of such work in the House that are proof of her talent in extracting great pieces from the girls. She is a practising artist who regularly exhibits with the Printmakers’ Council.
MATRONS
Mrs Claire Higgins came to Cranleigh in 2003 with a good deal of experience of the joys and difficulties of teenagers – having four of her own. Amongst many others things, her skill on the computers is much appreciated in the House. She lives very locally with her husband and her two glorious red setters
Mrs Ann Hosea has been at Cranleigh for fifteen years; having originally been Matron to boys, she moved to the girls’ House seven years ago and she has been surprised how much she enjoys being with the girls. She is our source of knowledge on all issues audio and visual. She has two grown-up children and five grandchildren – so far. She enjoys many outside interests, but is frustrated by her lack of progress in learning German! |
