Two of Cranleigh School’s girls’ hockey teams competing in the National Outdoor competition have qualified for the South Regional Finals taking place next week, where the top four teams in the region (comprising of seven counties) will compete for places at next term’s National Championships.

The U18s beat The Royal Latin 3-1, Alleyns 9-0 and Eastbourne 3-0 to come top of their South heats group, before winning the subsequent quarter-final 5-0 against Reeds School, Cobham. They now go to Southgate HC on Tuesday 25th November.

The U14s beat Eastbourne College 9-0, Leighton Park 4-0, and Surbiton High 4-0 to come top of their South heats group; they then went on to beat St Mary’s, Ascot 7-2 in the subsequent quarter-final. They now go to Surbiton HC on Thursday 27th November.

Added to this, the Girls U18 Indoor team became Surrey Champions on Friday evening, beating Reed’s School, Cobham in the semi-final, 5-0, and Reigate Grammar School in the final, 1-0. They go through to the South Regional Indoor Heats on Sunday 30th November at City of London Freemans School.

In addition the Boys U16 Indoor squad came top of a tough Surrey school group on Wednesday 12th November. They beat Kingston Grammar School 6-4, KCS Wimbledon 4-3, St George’s College in Weybridge 5-2, and Trinity School, Croydon 5-3. They now progress as the only qualifiers from this group through to the South Regional heats, being played on Sunday 30th November.

In preparation for this competition, the boys were able to benefit greatly from participating in the annual indoor hockey trip to Almere, in The Netherlands. Eleven members of the squad joined Mr Richard Organ for three days of successful training and matches during Long Leave in October: although the schedule proved to be quite demanding, all of the boys enjoyed themselves and towards the end played some pretty good hockey.
