Canoeing & Devizes - Westminister
|

Canoeing is now a well-established part of Cranleigh life, with opportunities for involvement at a number of levels:
Fourth Form
Canoeing features within the Fourth Form Outdoor Education Programme. The theme here is very much fun and gaining confidence in and out of a canoe. Hopefully, with their appetite whetted, many will be encouraged to opt for canoeing later on in their time at Cranleigh.
Lower Fifth
At this level canoeing is still a pool-based activity but can lead to gaining some basic skills and passing the BCU One Star Award. It is available in both the Tuesday and Thursday afternoon activity programme.
Upper Fifth
At this level the move is made to the Wey Kayak Club in Guildford and the paddlers are introduced to racing kayaks. The option also exists to gain the BCU Two Star Award.
Sixth Form
For those Cranleighans in the Sixth Form who are selected to train for the Devizes-Westminster International Canoe Race, canoeing gets much more serious! Two training sessions a week here at School, plus two 2-3 hour outings on the River Wey in Guildford, is the commitment they make in their attempt to compete in one of the toughest canoe races in the world. Cranleigh is now a force to be reckoned with in the Junior Doubles race, having come second in both the boys and girls event in 2008 and 2009, as well as winning the event in 2010.
