Opening of the Memorial Pavilion

Memorial Pavillion OpeningThe first phase of the Cricket Project, the extension and renovation of the Memorial Pavilion, is now complete, with the memorial boards bearing the names of all OCs who lost their lives in the service of their country taking pride of place on the walls. The result is a spectacular new focus for the Schools’ sports teams, and a welcoming in-school hub for OCs – 800 of whom took up the invitation to attend OC Day this year, on Sunday 14th June 2009, at which the Memorial Pavilion was officially opened.

The honours were done by Roger Knight OBE, former Housemaster of Loveday, former Captain and President of Surrey CCC and Chief Executive of MCC. The occasion was also marked by a Red Arrows fly-by, including OC Zane Sennett (2&3 South, 1994), now known as Red 2, and saw the OC Cricket team taking on the Haileybury Hermits in the first round of the Cricketer Cup – in which an outstanding performance from the team, and in particular from Seren Waters who managed 103 not out, set them on the first step towards repeating last year’s outstanding performance and playing in the final of this prestigious competition.

Representing as it does a combined effort between the Foundation, the OC Society and individual OCs (with the latter two between them donating an extraordinary £420,000)– plus a small top-up from the School – this project represents the ultimate blueprint for future Foundation projects.
