Cross Country

vp_sport_crosscountry.jpgBoys and girls in the Upper Fifth and Sixth Form may choose Cross Country as their main sports option in one or both of the first two terms of the academic year. Those who do so enjoy the beautiful Surrey Hills countryside around us, which provides ideal training facilities on the School’s doorstep, whilst gaining a proud sense of personal achievement and the satisfaction of training as part of a team.

Most of the inter-school fixtures take place in the Lent term, with a regular programme of Saturday meetings at various venues in the South East, including a fixture at Cranleigh that involved nine schools in 2010.  Highlights of the season include the Knole Run, and the Wellington Relays. Each year, a group of pupils also represents Waverley district in the Surrey trials and in past years a number has been selected to run at county level.

The Michaelmas term sees all IVth Form pupils taking part in the fiercely competed IVth Form Run, while the inter-House Cross Country Competition, which takes place in the Lent term, involves a large number of boys and girls of all ages.

Senior Coaches:

We are lucky enough to have two experienced and enthusiastic members of staff for Cross Country.

Toby Moschard is an enthusiastic long-distance runner who, after assisting with coaching for two years, took over as Master in Charge of Cross Country in September 2009.  He is an equally avid swimmer and cyclist, and competed in the Bath Half Marathon in March 2010.

Paul Crosfield is a keen cyclist and cross country runner, who ran the team until this year and who recently cycled 400 miles across Poland and Lithuania for charity.  He has completed many half marathons, mostly in Scotland, and continues to compete in local running races.
