Football

Sport_FootballFootball at Cranleigh has grown in both popularity and reputation over recent years. An option for Upper Fifth and Sixth Form boys, there are regular fixtures organised in the Lent Term. We play a strong fixture card with RGS Guildford, Eastbourne, King’s Canterbury, St Paul’s, Epsom, Brighton, Charterhouse and Worth amongst our annual opposition. Cranleigh School typically have over 100 players and can field six senior XIs, primarily playing on Saturday afternoon. With the provision of external professional coaching, the skill level and tactical appreciation of the senior squad members has improved dramatically during recent seasons, a trend we hope to continue.

Those not selected for the top School teams take part in the well-established, competitive internal “Fantasy Leagues”. Individual players are valued according to ability/conduct/influence on the pitch, which is reassessed after each match. Nominated captains select and barter for their teams within fixed ‘financial’ constraints and the teams contest for the title in a Champions League format, with group and finals stages.

During the Michaelmas Term an inter-house evening league is organized for Sixth Formers (both boys and girls) under floodlights on the astro. Options for younger pupils to take part in indoor soccer sessions are available during activity periods throughout the year.
