Cranleigh runs both a senior and junior girls’ Lacrosse team, who train regularly through the Michaelmas term, playing midweek inter school fixtures. In addition to our regular fixture list, we enter teams in county, national and other weekend tournaments.
Last year our Senior team came third in the Surrey Indoor Tournament, and came third in their group in the National Schools’ Tournament. This was an outstanding achievement given that Lacrosse is not the main sport for the majority of the girls competing, and is testament to the fact that it is, nevertheless, something that the girls take very seriously. All IVth Formers are introduced to the game during their first term at the School, and thereafter the sessions, for all ages, become an option for those wishing to carry on.
In July 2009, we took a group of fifteen girls from a variety of year groups to Prague to play in the Prague Teen Cup. The girls gained tremendous experience from the tournament, and faced the junior national sides from both the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as some strong British opposition. We achieved some rather mixed results but all in all it proved tremendously valuable for all those involved.
Head of Lacrosse:
Kate Morland has coached lacrosse at Cranleigh since September 2009. She has extensive lacrosse coaching experience and has played for the England U19 A team as well as for the Cambridge University 1st team for three years.
Sally McLaughlin has coached lacrosse since College. She spent nine years at St Catherine’s, Bramley (where she introduced the game to the current England Captain!) before coming to Cranleigh. Here at Cranleigh, she has taken the team through to runner up in the Surrey Indoor Tournament, and 3rd on several occasions in the Surrey Outdoor Tournament.
