Netball is the main sport for girls during the Lent term. The School’s eight courts, all of which have been recently surfaced to the highest specifications, are centrally located on two sites, and are a hive of activity every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoon, when around 150 girls are either training or involved in a full programme of fixtures. We run a total of sixteen teams, which includes four senior teams, three U16 teams, five U15 teams and four U14 teams, all of whom are regularly involved in matches. These mostly take place on Saturday afternoons but will also include some weekday fixtures in order to find the best opposition for our ranging abilities. As well as taking part in inter-school fixtures, the top teams in some age groups take part in county competitions, and more recently in national competitions in which we regularly reach the finals stages of the Counties.
Senior Coaches:
Director of Netball
In September 2011 Sian Parry was appointed Director of Netball. She has been coaching on the England Netball Excel pathway for four years and more recently has been working with the Surrey Storm National Talent League (NTL) Squad as Team Manager. Before joining Cranleigh Sian was working for the Youth Sports Trust as a Sports Coordinator and School Sports Netball Coach; during these three year posts she worked with over fifty schools to improve the quality of Netball and the coaching they were receiving.
Head of Netball
Sally Mclaughlin captained her School side to win the National Schools, captained her County team to win the Inter Counties and captained England to win the British Isles Tournament. She spent three years in the England U18 team (Capt, final year), three years in the England U21s (Capt, final year), and three years as an England Senior – including in the tour to Australia, New Zealand and Singapore that turned out to be the last time that England defeated Australia!
Having retired from playing, she took up coaching, and has taken several teams to the National Schools Finals – winning once and coming 3rd on two occasions. She coached the Surrey U18s to the Final of the Inter-Counties Tournament and coached the Sussex Seniors, before coming to Cranleigh.
