School Productions

VP_Drama_SchoolProductions.jpg

There are three school productions each year at Cranleigh. The schedule of plays varies slightly from year to year, but with a combination of school plays, junior and middle-school plays we ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to audition for a production every year. We always try to mount a range of plays including modern plays, musicals, classics and Shakespeare and try to include a range of styles and scales of production.

School Plays are performed in the Speech Hall, the VCT or in the Drama Studio depending on the scale and style of the piece. They are all open to the general public. Please click on the tab marked ‘This Year’s Productions’, below, to find out which productions are coming up.

School Plays

vp_drama_romeo_and_juliet.jpgThe School Plays are always of a very high quality indeed and cover a wide range of styles and genres. Recent productions have included plays by Shakespeare and Brecht. The productions are most often performed in the Speech Hall with stunning purpose-built sets.

Junior Plays

Arabian_Nights_SMO_4916In the summer term, when many in the school are working on their external examinations, one of the highlights is the Junior School Play. This is usually performed in the VCT and features performers from the IVth and LVth Forms. Productions have included pieces written and tailored for the actors themselves as well as more traditional productions. In previous years plays have included ‘Tales of the Arabian Nights’ by Dominic Cooke, ‘The Comedy of Errors’ by William Shakespeare and ‘The Odyssey’ by Hattie Naylor.

Musical Productions

SchoolProductions_Musicals_SweenyCranleigh School is rightly regarded very highly for the quality of its Musicals. Both Drama and Music Departments work hard together to produce what many regard as their best-ever work. Recent Musicals include ‘Les Misérables’, ‘Sweeney Todd’ and ‘Fiddler on the Roof’.
