In addition to the trips specifically aimed at those in the CCF, doing D of E, going climbing or competing in the DW, we aim to run a major expedition each summer. The plan is to alternate a relatively inexpensive ‘home-grown’ trip to somewhere in Britain, utilising our own staff, with a more expensive foreign expedition run through a specialist company.
The expeditions in 2007 and this next summer (2009) have been arranged for Arran, on the west coast of Scotland. This island provides a wealth of mountain-walking, natural history and geology in stunning scenery. Being totally self-contained, we are free to please ourselves with the itinerary and can adjust the programme according to the weather and the group’s interests.
Longer, foreign expeditions have recently been to Ecuador, Tanzania, and Namibia, and typically combine a trekking phase (such as the ascent of Kilimanjaro) with local community work or an environmental project (such as construction work in a local school).
We are currently planning an exciting expedition to Greenland for summer 2010 with Outlook Expeditions, during which we hope to trek across the Arctic environment of Disko Island, explore glaciers and see the effects of climate change first hand.
