Options for Pupils

Wednesday afternoons

Do something seriously rewarding on your Wednesday afternoons:

St Joseph’s School – a popular option for Sixth Formers, joining in at St Joseph’s (a children’s school just across the road for children with severe learning difficulties) where you will not fail to get involved on a one-to-one basis with a pupil there, doing anything from playing football with them to help baking cakes as an out of school activity.

Knowle Park Nursing Home & Longfields Nursing Home, Cranleigh – brighten up the afternoons of some of the Senior Citizens at these two local homes.

Litter picking around Cranleigh and helping to keep the War Memorial tidy through the Royal British Legion  – work with PJL, through the Parish Council, in these all-important activities. (5th form only)

Cranleigh C of E Primary School – help to keep the gardens tidy and colourful for the young residents (Fifth Form only)

Local charity outlets – help out at some of these vital fundraising outlets, including the Barnardos Charity Shop and the Hospital Shop.

Adult Literacy Group - help supply the following items for them:
·    Writing & Drawing paper
·    Coloured felt pens
·    Story Tapes
·    Selection of books
·    Jigsaw puzzles
·    Games

Recycling on campus – work as part of a team, recycling paper each week.

Musical involvement within the village

There are numerous openings for Cranleigh musicians to take part in events in and with the village, including:

Combined concerts – with the musicians of Glebelands here at school – invariably a great success.

The annual Village Remembrance Service – last year, on Sunday 9 November 2008, musicians from Cranleigh School, Glebelands School, Park Mead School and some Cranleigh Youth Band members played together at the local Open Air Remembrance Service in the village– an extremely moving event, at which the Head Boy also laid a wreath at the War Memorial on behalf of the School.

Regular lunchtime concerts – to which local residents are invited. This is a particularly popular event with the Senior Citizens at Knowle Park Nursing Home, Cranleigh, and also with St Josephs School. And for those residents not able to make it up to the school, you can join one of the ensembles who give informal concerts at Elmbridge and Moat Lodge.

Fundraising
Join our team of fundraisers throughout the year, raising money through various initiatives (including walking Hadrian’s Wall last year) for a wide range of extremely good causes including, most recently:

Baptist Church Summer Camp for under privileged children in Cranleigh – for which Sam Cooke, Head of RS, iss one of the organisers.

Humanitarian work in Kenya, supporting the voluntary work of two members of Cranleigh staff in Summer 2008.

ENKI, through which school funds are helping to support a Kenyan student through university.

Hope and Homes for Children– a charity working in Central and Eastern Europe and Africa, whose mission is to give hope to orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable chidlren, by enabling them to grow up within the love of a family and the security of a home.

Christmas Outreach
Join the team in creating the Christmas parcels for the needy OAP’s in the village, and in delivering them to up to 100 local residents around the village and at Longfields Nursing Home.
