Lower Fifth artists took the whole of Tuesday out this week to visit the National Portrait and Courtauld Institute Galleries in central London. One half of our students was able to join a sketching workshop organised at the National Portrait Gallery, where a major exhibition of Picasso’s Portraits is drawing to the end of its run, while the others were studying the exquisite paintings and drawings at the Courtauld galleries. Pupils then swapped venues in the middle of the day catching a bite to eat on the Strand. The Cranleighians worked incredibly hard, sketching and making notes, and seemed to really enjoy the amazing, world class artwork on display.

The students’ research will feed into their current project theme of ‘Fragments’.
