The first month of the season has seen records broken by the Rugby Club. Since the start of term the School has played 48 matches winning 36 of them. This 75% win ratio is a record for this month of September with all teams from 1st XV through to our U14D playing competitive rugby.

The 1st XV, 3rd, U16A, U15C and 5th XV all remain unbeaten with the 1st XV winning their first four matches (away from home) against Eastbourne, Brighton, St John’s and Epsom. These results have meant that the 1st XV are currently in the top 5 schools in the country in the Daily Mail merit table and even attracted a headline in that publication. The senior sides (1st – 5th XV) have only lost two matches out of the 15 played which is a remarkable achievement when considering all their matches except the 5th XV have been away from home.

Andrew Houston (Director or Rugby) comments: “All the hard work in pre-season has really paid off. We started our training with voluntary fitness sessions on the 12th August and a vast number of pupils of all abilities and ages came to it. This has meant that we have hit the ground running and I am delighted with their performances so far. Winning both St Joseph’s and Rosslyn Park sevens twice has given our boys real confidence to be ambitious and push their talents. They train incredibly hard but they do it with a smile on their faces. Although it is a great start, we all know we have lots of challenges to come and the boys in all teams seem focused on getting better and better each session. I just hope all pupils in all teams keep are enjoying their rugby and love being part of the team.”
