Cranleigh riders returned from the NSEA National Championships armed with rosettes that reflected the success in depth of our riding squad. The four day competition at the start of half term involved over 1000 qualified horse and rider combinations, with every competition starting with an average of 45 school teams!

Having qualified the maximum three teams for the Mini Arena Eventing, we had an outstanding result, taking the bronze medal position as well having our other two teams in the final eight line-up. In addition Freddy Moore and Will Millard both finished in the top eight individually.

Our Novice, Intermediate and Open teams fought hard too, with all three A teams finishing in 5th place and taking their places in the final line-up, and Lila Millard taking the bronze medal position individually in the Open event. Josh Moore had qualified individually in the Advanced Arena Eventing and came away with the silver medal, just one point (the equivalent of one second over the cross country course) behind the champion.

The show jumping arena is not always our strongest, but an excellent sixth place for the Novice team was an exciting result for them. Josh Moore and Freya Hough had both qualified individually for the Advanced event and Josh made the jump-off for the top eight riders after the first round.

Sixth place for our A team in the dressage, where less than 2% separated the top six teams was another pleasing result, with our other two teams in this event finishing in the top 15 too.

We had already been crowned as South East Regional Points Champions before the Nationals and as such competed in the Regional Finals competition whilst at Addington. This involved a mixed-height team of eight riders who had to show jump from Mini up to Open. We finished in a very creditable sixth place here too.

It was an exciting four days of competition, the biggest championship event to date, and Cranleigh riders certainly maintained the reputation for excellence that we have built over recent years.
