We’re celebrating another excellent set of results in the Extended Project Qualifications (EPQs). Cranleigh Sixth Form students received their EPQ results today, and grades were the highest ever.

Eighty-three per cent of all grades were marked at A*-B and sixty-five per cent achieved A*-A.

Most Sixth Formers at Cranleigh take an EPQ alongside studying for three A Levels. The qualification asks students to undertake a longer piece of research culminating in a dissertation style essay or the production of an artefact. It’s now widely used as a preparation for university learning by schools and sixth form centres across the country.

More students took the EPQ at Cranleigh this year than ever before. The qualification is increasingly popular with pupils who want to study a topic in greater depth and is favoured by universities, many of which extend offers based on EPQ results.

Examiners praise the EPQ for helping students to develop their skills in independent research and guide them into higher education, particularly important for this cohort who missed out on externally moderated GCSEs.

These results are a testament to the students’ abilities, hard work and resilience in carrying projects through to completion under challenging circumstances. The EPQ at Cranleigh is going from strength to strength, with Cranleighans embracing the opportunity to develop their skills as independent, creative, original thinkers. The value of EPQ is noted by universities and the qualification fully embodies the Cranleigh Thinking approach, with a focus on discovery, inquiry and reflection as key attributes in a process of deeper learning.
