On Tuesday 24th September, Upper Fifth artists travelled to Chichester to view artwork in two contrasting venues. Pallant House Gallery in the centre of the city specialises in Modern British art, mostly small scale painting, printmaking and sculpture, while the Cass Sculpture Foundation in the countryside near Goodwood shows large scale sculptures.
The current project theme of ‘Places and Spaces’ made the landscape work on show at Pallant House an ideal place to visit. The current an Ivan Hitchens Exhibition and display of landscape work by contemporary photographer Simon Roberts added to the appeal. Similarly the Cass Sculpture Park’s venue, as much as the sculpture, provided a beautiful space in which to draw and photograph. Cranleighians worked enthusiastically to respond in sketches and notes to the work on show.
