Lower Sixth artists travelled to see two current exhibitions in London last week: David Hockney’s retrospective, at Tate Britain, and ‘Revolution: Russian Art 1917–1932’, at  the Royal Academy.

Students were entranced by the variety of Hockney’s work over his 60 year career: brightly coloured landscapes, clever photographic montages and ambitious portraiture. The Russian show moved between abstraction and figuration just like Hockney, and while it was much less exuberant there was plenty to enjoy.
