On Saturday 14th January the Cranleigh Robotics teams were in action at the Langton Grammar School in Canterbury. Both Cranleigh teams got off to a flying start with each team winning both of their opening qualification matches to top the table. Fiercely competitive matches throughout the morning and into the early afternoon saw all 16 teams competing jostle for the top spots in the rankings and after their eight matches our teams qualified in second and twelfth position.

Alliance selection was one of the most competitive and challenging process witnessed as teams declined and accepted pairings up and down the rank order. Team 18650D paired with team 282S from Bushey Meads School to take the second seed position with 18650E pairing with a team from Greig City Academy, 10478B.

Before the knockout rounds began our teams posted scores on the “Skills Field” which requires them to score as many points as they can, by themselves, in both programming and driver controlled timed runs. Both Cranleigh teams posted impressive skills runs with 18650E finishing in sixth place and 18650D finishing second, only two points off the top spot.

Back to the teamwork action; both teams navigated their way through their Quarter Final matches and after ending up on the same side of the draw, our Cranleigh Teams found themselves on opposing sides for the Semi-Finals! The dominance of the 18650D Cranleigh Team and their alliance partners shone through as they continued their impressive scoring taking the win 133-32 and they progressed on to the final.

The final was a very closely contested match with Cranleigh alliance crowned champions after multiple technical infringements by the opposition! As a result 18650D from Cranleigh have now secured their spot at this years National Finals to be held at the International Centre in Telford on 3rd & 4th March. A huge well done to both teams on a fantastic day of robotics. Keep an eye on @CranleighDesEng for further updates.
