On Wednesday 14th October 2020 Cranleigh’s first school with partners Cogdel Education Group in the city of Changsha was officially opened. The guest of honour, the British Government’s Consul General to Quanzhou Ms Jo Hawley, spent the day at the school meeting students and staff, touring the campus and watching performances.

Students, parents, staff and local dignitaries enjoyed festivities as part of the opening ceremony and were treated to Shakespearean acting as well as local and traditional cultural dancing and singing. Cranleigh School leaders including Chair of Governors Mr Adrian Lajtha, Headmaster Mr Martin Reader and Headmaster Cranleigh Changsha Mr Andrew Griffiths gave speeches through video link welcoming Consul General Ms Jo Hawley, thanking Cogdel for their great achievement in opening the school in such challenging times and addressing directly the students and parents regarding the Cranleigh ethos.

Joint pupil collaboration projects have already commenced between Cranleigh students and students in China and we hope this will be the start of a new era of greater mutual understanding and collaboration for students within the Cranleigh Family of Schools.

Cranleigh’s next school with Cogdel Education Group is scheduled to open in September 2021 in the city of Chengdu located in Sichuan Province.
