Job Title
Director of Hockey
Joined Cranleigh
January 2008

Following on from graduating in Economics at the University of York, I spent around 20 years in Database Marketing, building customer databases for the likes of South West Trains and Jongleurs Comedy Clubs. I took up hockey coaching in the 90s and was coaching for England Women’s Senior when I caught up with Mr Steve Batchelor. Thirteen years later and I’ve had a great time as Director of Hockey.

From a performance point of view, being able to give the opportunity to so many players, parents and staff to enjoy the thrill of National Finals has been an ongoing highlight. Equally, seeing players and staff of all levels develop their skillsets over the years is a source of continuing pleasure, so often reflecting the ethos of the ‘Cranleigh family’.

Since the 90’s I’ve coached the East Grinstead Men’s indoor team which has entailed various ups and downs. The ‘ups’ include winning  12 of the last 16 National Finals whilst the rollercoaster encompasses that oft-used but crucial phrase “You never stop learning”.

As many Cranleighans will have heard from me on a hockey pitch, I have two rules which are:

You must have fun

You’re not allowed to use the word ‘can’t’
