Job Title
Fees Controller
Joined Cranleigh
January 2020

I was born in Glasgow, and grew up on a remote farm outside of Glasgow. I moved to Lancing (West Sussex) when I was eight, went to Irene Ave Middle school, then on to Boundstone Comp. While there I played Cricket for Sussex Women’s U18s for two seasons. I left school and went to Catering college for two years for my City and Guilds qualification.
After this I joined The Woman’s Royal Army Corp (WRAC) attached to the Army Catering Corp (ACC) based in Catterick North Yorkshire for three years. When I left the Army I moved back to Largs on the West Coast of Scotland and worked in the National Sports Training Centre whilst going to college part time for my Diploma in Hotel and Catering. I moved to Crawley and worked in hotels in London for three years, then worked in various types of catering as Head Chef and then chef management roles with Guildford Borough Council and then the Francis Holland School in Central London in 2001. I started as Chef Manager in the January and by the July was poached by the Assistant Bursar to work in the Accounts Department as the Billing Assistant. In 2007 I took on the role of Billing and Purchase Ledger Clerk. In 2011 I then became the Billings Manager.
I was looking for a job nearer to home to reduce a stressful commute and by chance I was helping a friend deliver parcels in the Cranleigh area and we delivered to the school. A joke was made about working at the school and two weeks later, in January 2020, I was being interviewed by Jane Underdown for the role of Fee Controller, and the rest is history!

I am the unlucky person that bills all the parents then has to chase for payment of fees, dealing on a daily basis with parents regarding their bills and any queries they have, liaising with the teaching and admissions staff.
What I like most about Cranleigh is the warmth and family feeling. I had a serious accident on 9th March 2020 whilst riding my motorbike to work, I had only been at the school two months but the support I have had through this and three operations later has been great. Everyone has made me feel welcomed and cared for especially my line manager Jane Underdown who ensured I did not over do things whilst working from home and on my return.
