Located at the very heart of the school, East is renowned for its Hogwarts-like feel. The rabbit-warren of hidden staircases and split-level rooms give a unique character which is incredibly popular with the boys. East has housed boys at Cranleigh since the earliest days of the school, but thanks to regular refurbishment, the house is modern and light. Unique names for spaces include The Ship and Old Day Res, which now houses a modern Sixth Form common room.

Our excellent house spirit stems from the boys throwing themselves into the wide range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities available at Cranleigh. We strive to be a house where boys can be themselves and feel genuinely at home.

— Housemaster: Mr Peter Bradnock

Mr Pete Bradnock is the Housemaster of East and Teacher of English. He thoroughly enjoys living and working in East; with 103 teenage boys to look after, there is never a dull moment! He has over 22 years’ experience in secondary education and there is very little that surprises him when it comes to teenagers and teenage boys in particular.

Mr Pete Bradnock has taught in the UK state secondary sector, overseas in Hawke’s Bay New Zealand, as well as up the road at the academically selective RGS Guildford. This depth of experience means that he is flexible of mindset and can adapt his broad range of skills to the situation at hand, whatever it may be.

He enjoys reading, surfing, skateboarding and sitting in a pub with good friends, a roaring fire and real ale on tap. He is married to Rachael (an OC herself, Cubitt 92-94), and has two children, Claudia and Joshua. He is a keen skateboarder, surfer and swimmer and used to be a surf lifesaving instructor. As a committed (former!) rower, he also stroked the boat for his eight at Henley Royal Regatta.
