As everyone returned to School three Gold DofE teams navigated themselves across Dartmoor from the South to the North finishing at Okehampton. The expedition involved some tricky navigation in poor conditions and a very wet wild camp on the moor. All the students performed well and enhanced existing skills throughout the journey.
The last expedition of the season was during October Long Leave with a mixed team of practice and qualifying students. Again, the weather was unkind but all persevered despite being very much out of their comfort zone and losing an integral team member, Eddie, to an ankle injury.
Bronze DofE training has gone off to a flying and very organised start under the leadership of Ms Gibson and her team of Gold leaders.
We said a sad goodbye to Mr Pigeon before long leave and thanks go to the Art department who have stepped up to cover the training while we find a replacement.
Record numbers of Gold students have signed up this year. All very keen, engaging and ambitious with the choices of expedition locations.
Congratulations to Ozzy L. and Charlotte B. for completing the Gold award.
After a wall reset the girls, Houses took part in the inter House bouldering comp. Always a highlight of the year, this year South came out on top. The scores will be added to the boys comp next term for affiliated House results.
We entered two teams into the Southern Schools climbing comp against some very big schools and strong climbers. Congratulations to Ozzy L., Adam L. and Oscar G. who came second in the Top Rope and Boulder competition. Thanks must go to Mrs Taylor for all her help developing the team.
Climbing and paddling continue to be popular priority time activities and next term we look forward to the start of the Fourth Form outdoor ed programme, the National climbing comp and the start of the expedition season for DofE.
