The U14 boys’ hockey team became Surrey champions on Tuesday February 26th. Having won all our county qualifiers, the team went into the Finals day at Surbiton Hockey Club with some confidence.

We set the tone positively against Reeds in the semi-final, passing the ball well to emerge 3-0 winners, leaving us to face RGS Guildford in the final. RGS pressed hard, and our performance was patchy in thehockey. boys u14 surrey county champions first half. The scores were tied at half time, but Cranleigh’s talent shone through in the second half as we adapted to the water-based pitch and played into higher positions. Ed Tristem opened the scoring with a wonderful individual effort, slicing through the RGS defence before burying the ball in the back of the net. Our confidence grew from here, and Angus Burns applied two excellent finishes to well-worked team goals. Final score: 3-0 Cranleigh.

Credit must go to goalkeeper Harry Binnion, and the whole side, for having conceded just one goal this season in all competitions. The South Regional Heats are at St George’s on Tuesday March 3rd and we wish the team the very best.
