Following Cranleigh’s rugby being nominated amongst the top six rugby schools in the country at the RFU National Rugby Awards this summer, therugby-1st-xv-v-st-john_s-leatherhead-2016_32688 2016/17 season has got off to a flying start.

Rugby boys from all age groups volunteered to cut their summer holidays short and started fitness training in the early part of August and this dedication has paid off with some record-breaking success. With a third of the season already gone, the School is currently enjoying a terrific set of results.

The 1st  XV have won four out of their five matches, including a victory over an Epsom side who the previousrugby-1st-xv-v-epsom-2016_33049 week had won 37-0 against Dulwich.

The 3rds, 4ths and 5ths remain unbeaten, with the School fielding six sides which includes 136 boys from the sixth form. This means that a staggering 85% of Sixth Form boys are currently representing the School at rugby.

The U15s as a whole year group have only lost one match out of the fifteen played with the U15A, C and D teams unbeaten.

The U14s have also been on fine form, winning 87% of their matches across the four sides! This means that the School has currently played 54 matches and won 37, drawing one; in other words 70% of  games played have been won.

The 1st and 2nd XV have also linked up with Alliance and Stonewall’s rainbow laces campaign, a project that works to make sport open to everyone regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Well done and keep up the hard work!

Director of Rugby
