On Wednesday 16th November, the annual Sixth Form evening took place, this year on the topic of “La Pachamama”. Having focused on something Peninsular last year, this year we drew our attention to the wonderful traditions of some of the Andean countries in Latin America and focused on the celebrations of Mother Earth, or “La Pachamama”.
With vibrant colours, authentic food and Hispanic music, the scene was set for what turned out to be a very enjoyable evening. The Upper Sixth students of Spanish had prepared presentations for the audience, with topics tackling some of the key aspects of Andean culture such as the Incas and the indigenous cultures which still reside in Latin America. These presentations were interspersed with readings of poetry and other authentic texts, which were performed by our Lower Sixth students of Spanish.
Stand out performances included a superb presentation on Indigenous cultures in Latin America by Sam Dixon and Tom Chesterman, and a sensitively read poem on “La Pachamama” by Eliza Boyd and Anna McDonald. The evening was completed to perfection by the smell and taste of Argentinian ‘Locro’ which was made by Pamela Bigg and sampled by all, and by Abi Ratoff’s excellent face painting skills.
