Voluntary action is an area of school life like no other. Whether on site or away from the school campus, students experience something different in their week, taking time to look beyond themselves and give selflessly, sometimes never even meeting the people they are serving.

Our pupils volunteer at St Joseph’s School through Interact, work with pupils at Jigsaw School in Dunsfold and run sports-based after school clubs at local primary schools. Others visit the older members of the community at Knowle Park Care Home and Elmbridge Retirement Village, to listen to stories, play board games and build relationships that make everyone’s day.

A group of hardy gardeners also volunteer to look after common land areas locally as well as at local schools. Pupils bake for the Number Five Project Homeless Shelter in Guildford, and also knit blankets to send to charities who care for people living in conflict.

We believe strongly that it’s the right thing to do to use our time and talents to the benefit of others and we know that the pupils gain so much in return. We’re grateful to all our local partners who show faith in us and allow us to get involved in what they’re doing.

“Students experience something different in their week, taking time to look beyond themselves and give selflessly”

— Mrs Rebecca Barker, Head of Voluntary Action
