A large proportion of pupils choose to take individual instrumental or vocal tuition at school. Lessons are provided by a staff of over fifty full-time and visiting teachers and we are in a fortunate location in the South-East to attract many top London professional musicians to teach at Cranleigh.
Tuition is available on the following instruments: Violin, Viola, ‘Cello, Double Bass, Harp, Flute, Recorder, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Saxophone, Orchestral Percussion, Kit Drums, Classical Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Tuba, French Horn, Euphonium, Trumpet, Trombone, Singing, Piano, Jazz Piano/Improvisation and Organ. Individual lessons in Music Theory are also available.
The recommended length of each weekly lesson is dependent of the level of attainment. This may be discussed with Music staff. However, as a general guide we would recommend:
- Standard lessons (30 minutes) for pupils working up to Grade 5 level or equivalent
- Extended lessons (45 minutes) for pupils working towards or post Grades 6 and 7 or equivalent
- Double lessons (60 minutes) for pupils working towards or post Grade 8 or equivalent
