{"id":40367,"date":"2019-12-12T12:52:29","date_gmt":"2019-12-12T12:52:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cranprep.org\/?p=40367"},"modified":"2019-12-12T12:52:29","modified_gmt":"2019-12-12T12:52:29","slug":"maths-puzzle-day-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.cranleigh.org\/prep\/2019\/12\/12\/maths-puzzle-day-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Maths Puzzle Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we move down through the gears at the end of the Michaelmas term, tradition dictates that the term ends with Maths Puzzle Day. The normal timetable is dispensed with, and the children enjoy a carousel of Maths activities throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>This year we were delighted to welcome back the Problem Solving Company who took over the Wyatt Hall, with large puzzles to solve such as the Tower of Hanoi.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile Bubbly Maths took the Hub by storm; children had a great time learning about polyhedra and managed to construct tetrahedra, octahedra and even an icosahedron out of balloons.<\/p>\n\n<p>Children with a competitive streak were able to put their thinking caps on and charge around the Dance Studio as they solved problems in the Maths Relays.<\/p>\n\n<p>Mr Stroud arranged a fantastic mix of Computing activities which included learning about binary numbers, programming using Python and sending messages to one another using semaphore.<\/p>\n\n<p>Children headed into the games room where they played mathematical games which required strategic thinking as they played Shut the Box, Sprouts, Set and Sum Fun.<\/p>\n\n<p>Probably the most popular with staff was the Curves of Pursuit activity which enabled children to improve their dexterity and fine motor skills as they used geometrical equipment to construct and decorate a variety of different polygons while being serenaded by Michael Buble!<\/p>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I think you\u2019d be hard pressed to find a school where as much meaningful learning takes place on the day before the start of the Christmas holidays!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As we move down through the gears at the end of the Michaelmas term, tradition dictates that the term ends with Maths&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":40372,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[126,131,140,145],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-40367","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-academic","category-featured","category-events"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
