Mrs Claire Lock joined Cranleigh as Housmistress of South in September 2016. Outside of House life, Claire teaches Biology, having studied Zoology at Bristol University, and gets involved in sports, mainly hockey, as well as the Duke of Edinburgh award. Mrs Lock started her career in the Pharmaceutical industry before moving to Sussex and becoming a farmer’s wife.
Mrs and her husband Alex then decided that they weren’t busy enough with farming 750 acres and raising four girls and so decided to set up a Bed and Breakfast and Mountain bike hire business. After seven years in the hospitality industry, Mrs Lock decided to return to school and retrain as a teacher, after which she spent seven years as a Science teacher and Head of Year, then, more recently, as a Housemistress at Bedales School, before being appointed as Housemistress of South.
As a mother to four daughters Mrs Lock has experienced first-hand the journey through the teenage years and knows how crucial it is to allow young people the space to develop as individuals, whilst providing the necessary support in a caring and safe environment. Mrs Lock also believes that open and honest communication is key and aims to develop a strong partnership with parents and families in order to best support the girls in the House through the challenges of teenage years.

DEPUTIES
Miss Simmons joined the Classics department in September 2017, having taught for three years at Bromsgrove School. Prior to this she studied at Newnham College, Cambridge and graduated with first class honours. Passionate about the classical languages and literature, she can’t wait to promote her love of Latin prosody to her classes.
Outside of the classroom, Miss Simmons can be found participating in a wide variety of sports, but is a particular fan of long distance running, cycling and cricket. Whilst at university, she was awarded a half blue and had the incredible experience of playing at Lords’ on several occasions. Miss Simmons is always seeking out her next sporting challenge and is looking forward to participating in another marathon soon. Mr Nick Drake joined Cranleigh in January 2013 as a Modern Languages teacher. He is also a tutor in South. From an early age Mr Drake had an interest in life beyond his homeland, spending some of his early childhood and education in France. This interest in all things foreign led him to study French and Spanish at Bristol University and culminated in him marrying his Australian wife Leah! Prior to Cranleigh, Mr Drake worked as a broadcast journalist for Sky Sports and an investment banker.
When Mr Drake is not conversing in Spanish and French, he jointly heads up the pupil and parental PSHEE programme and enjoys coaching football and fives. He is a devoted Christian and his interests include psychology and his beloved Liverpool FC. He and Leah have two small children Sébastien and Arabella, who provide them with endless fun and challenge!
