Last week was filled with outstanding performances across various sports.
Saturday marked the final block matches for many hockey teams, with an impressive 10 wins out of 15 games. A special mention goes to the 3rd XI hockey team, who completed their season unbeaten, achieving 7 wins and 1 draw. Their most recent match concluded with a 12-0 victory, so congratulations to all of them. A particular shout out must go to Maddie K who scored 6 of the 12 goals. The rugby teams also excelled, winning 9 out of 13 games. Notably, the 15A rugby team secured a 22-7 victory, advancing in the National Bowl.
On Sunday, Matilda F and OC Charlotte Barr represented the school at the prestigious Turnbull Tournament at Eton. Competing as one of only two all-girls pairs, they performed admirably, narrowly losing in the plate semi-final by one point. As the youngest team present and last year’s National champions, their efforts were commendable.
Teams of the week:
- The 16B girls’ hockey team, despite a loss, played their best game of the season, showcasing teamwork and quality.
- The 14B rugby team delivered an excellent first-half performance, winning 15-12 in an away match and reversing the score line from six weeks earlier.
This weekend sees House matches for the vast majority of the girls and then the final games of rugby for the boys. We also have squash and the equestrian teams out competing in what should be an exciting day of sport. A special mention to the 1st XV who will play their final game of the season with them currently unbeaten and sitting second in the National Daily Mail table. This involves all rugby playing schools in the country and it is a wonderful achievement to be where they are.
As it is the last report for the term, please may I give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed to the success of our sports program this term. To the staff, coaches, caterers, laundry team, grounds crew, bus drivers, pupils, and parents – your dedication, hard work, and enthusiasm are what make this program thrive. It’s truly a testament to the power of teamwork, with each person playing a vital role in ensuring everything runs smoothly and that on a day to day basis, we are doing the best we can for all 700 pupils.
Wet weather disruption:
Wet weather, waterlogged pitches and a weather warning this weekend has meant sadly we have had to alter our program.
- The 1st XV, 2nd XV and 3rd XV games have been postponed and will now be played at Cranleigh School on Tuesday 10th December at 2:15pm
- The 16A, B, C & 15C games are currently still on at RGS (Bradstone Brook) on Saturday 7th December.
- The 14C,D and 15B games are currently still on at Cranleigh on Saturday 7th December. There will be several pitch inspections first thing in the morning and throughout the day.
Sadly this means the 4th, 5th, games are cancelled as well as the 14A, 14B and 15A. I do apologise for that but safety is paramount in regarding playing and travel conditions. Those matches that are cancelled, the pupils are able to leave after lunch on Saturday.
Hockey house matches are currently still on and we will review on Saturday morning. This will be the same with all our sports.
Sadly the Equestrian competition on Saturday has been cancelled with more detail about whether Sunday will go ahead to be given on Saturday afternoon by the competition organisers.
I wish you all a restful and peaceful Christmas.
