Mr Steve Batchelor is Assistant Head (Liaison). A former professional sportsman he holds Olympic bronze and gold medals for hockey. Mr Batchelor joined Cranleigh more than 20 years ago as a sports coach and shortly after was asked to join the Common Room, becoming Deputy Housemaster of Loveday. He has now moved from his position as Head of Admissions, which he held for over 10 years, to the role of Assistant Head (Liaison).
Mr Batchelor now supports the Headmaster with Admissions, Cranleigh Friends and Old Cranleighans, as well as projects overseas.
Mr Batchelor’s four children have all attended Cranleigh and in his words “they have had an all-round education with many opportunities, enjoyed every minute of school life and all come out as rounded individuals ready for life outside Cranleigh”.
Mr Batchelor’s sporting background has been a big part of his life inside and outside Cranleigh. He played the professional tennis circuit for three years but he is probably better known for his hockey having competed in three Olympic games, winning a
Bronze and Gold Olympic medal in Los Angeles and Seoul respectively. Mr Batchelor then went onto play in the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.
