Once again by popular request the school Big Band performed to a packed hall at Elmbridge Village last Thursday afternoon. As we arrived immediately after lessons the audience were all sat in their places waiting for us to start, and as we came into the hall they gave the band a spontaneous applause!

The concert started with that well known Miller number ‘A String of Pearls’ which was followed by a number of “pot boilers” such as ‘Fly Me To The Moon’, ‘What a Wonderful World’, ‘A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square’, ‘Moon River’ and many more. By this time the audience were bubbling with lots of toe-tapping to the selection of music that Bandmaster Bob Wilson had chosen.

As the concert was starting to draw to an end a completely unprecedented number of the audience left their seats and started dancing to the sounds of ‘In The Mood’. Members of the band were taken aback, and were proud to have created such a buzzing feeling. Tom Hollister, Millie Crane and Henry Harrod –three of the more senior members of the band – remarked that they had enjoyed it so much, could they come back again next term and do another concert? For the entire band, seeing the happiness on the audience’s faces was a delight.
