Cranleigh is extremely proud of Teacher Dan Fox, who has been selected to represent the Great Britain Hockey team at the Olympics. Head Coach Jason Lee recently confirmed the squad selection, announcing the final 16 players who will represent Team GB at the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games. Making the cut from the initial squad of 27 is a superb achievement, and it marks the culmination of years of hard-work and commitment from Dan.

Joining the Geography Department this year, Dan has taught part-time as well as coaching Cricket. From September, Dan will be teaching full-time and coaching Hockey in addition to Cricket.

The School can already count one Olympian amongst its staff, with Steve Batchelor playing Hockey for Great Britain at the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games. Steve famously won gold in Seoul in 1988; everyone here at Cranleigh will be hoping Dan can follow in his footsteps, and we wish him the very best of luck.

Update: Dan starred in Team GB’s opening 4-1 win against Argentina. Being a defender did not stop Dan from securing his first international goal, as he coolly finished off a well-worked counter-attacking team move.
