Over the Easter holidays a number of our hockey players represented their clubs in National finals at Lee Valley on the Olympic Park.  Megan Batchelor, Chloe Nicholls and Eva Solt played for East Grinstead under 18s who finally succumbed to Bowdon in a tight semi-final, losing on sudden death penalty flicks after a 1-1 draw. Charlie Firth scored in the under 18 Boys’ Plate final but was on the losing side against Bury St Edmunds, 2-3.

The under 16 Boys and Girls competitions comprised of group games followed by a final. Rory Calnan, Harry Gough and Taylor Seager-Green, playing for Surbiton under 16s comfortably won theirDSC_0937 first two games against Neston & Cannock, 6-0, and came from behind to beat Wycombe 2-1. They then had the better of the final against Beeston, but were not able to convert their superiority and ended up losing 1-2.

So it was left to their Surbiton under 16s counterparts  – Izzy Petter, FIfi Robinson and Amy Thompson – who cruised through their group beating Epsom 4-0, Belper 8-1 & Wakefield 2-0. The final against Beeston was tighter resulting in a 1-1 draw, but they ran out 7-6 winners on sudden-death penalty flicks to earn a dramatic victory.

It is really good to see so many Cranleighans starring again on the national stage and well done to all of them.
