Monica Fisher. Zoology degree at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. Worked for American banks in the City for 20 years. Now has various trusteeships and non-executive directorships, mostly in the voluntary sector. Married with one son and one daughter. Interests include tennis, travel and wildlife photography.

Sarah Bayliss. Roedean School and Worcester College, Oxford (Modern Languages). Worked for investment banks in the City and in Tokyo; now works in the voluntary sector, including the Independent Monitoring Board at HMP Send (Chair 2012-2014) which monitors prisoner welfare. Married with three sons and one daughter. Interests include tennis, opera, theatre and bridge.

J. A. Brown, MA Oxon

Jenny Brown was educated at North London Collegiate School and Oxford University, where she read English. She started her career publishing for Robert Maxwell at Pergamon Press, but the move into English teaching at Cranleigh School ‘felt like coming home’. She taught at Highgate School in 1995 and then South Hampstead High School in 2000. She was Head of English at Channing School and then Director of Senior School at St Paul’s Girls’ School. She sits on the Advisory Board of the New College of the Humanities and the Membership Committee of the HMC and Professional Development Committee of the GSA and is a Governor at Cranleigh School. Any leisure hours are full of John Donne, George Eliot, Jane Austen, editing her husband’s plays, swimming in very cold water and enjoying the company of her two teenaged children.

M. P. Cathcart, BVMS, BSc, MVM, CertEM, DipECEIM, MRCVS

Mike Cathcart. University of Glasgow Bachelor of Science (2000), Bachelor (2002) and Master (2016) of veterinary medicine. Moved into veterinary academia after 10 years of clinical practice; scholar at the University of Glasgow, senior lecturer at University of Adelaide (Australia) and now Director of Clinical Education at University of Surrey. European specialist in equine internal medicine. Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Lives in Hampshire with wife Emma and son Oliver. Interests: walking, outdoor pursuits, music and photography.

R. M. Chesser, MA, MB BChir, MRCP

Ros Chesser. Medical degree at Trinity Hall Cambridge and Guys and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London. General Practitioner. Married to an Old Cranleighan with 3 children. Interests include tennis, biking and singing.

Mark Foster. MA Classics from University College, Oxford. 27 years at Accenture retired in 2011 as Group Chief Executive Global Markets and Management Consulting. 2011-2015 founding Commissioner for the Independent Commission for Aid Impact. Formerly Board member of Royal Shakespeare Company, Chairman of International Business Leaders Forum, Non-Executive Director of Heidrick & Struggles, Computer Sciences Corporation, Alexander Mann Solutions and Atento. Chairman of the Peaslake Schools Trust since 1994 and Peaslake Free School since 2013. Currently Senior Vice President Global Business Services at IBM. Lives in Old Greenwich, CT, USA with wife Sandy. Two sons Alex and Matt – both OC’s.

S. Gunapala, BEng MEng FCA

San Gunapala. Married to Sophie and has two daughters. Engineering degree and masters from Warwick University. He is a chartered accountant and partner at Ernst & Young in their audit practice. Council member at the Institute of Chartered Accountants for England and Wales. Interests: cricket, football, reading and theatre.

David Williams. Educated at Glasgow Academy and Nottingham University. Qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse. Worked as Finance Director and Managing Director within both the IT and construction industries, including working in Ireland and Finland. Bursar at Charterhouse for 8 years before becoming a Consultant Bursar in 2014. Sits on Governing Council of Royal Holloway College. Married to Pippa, 2 children. Interests: Isle of Wight, travel, opera.

Peter Wells. Born and brought up in India, Peter was educated as a boarder at Eltham College and Exeter University. He started his teaching career at Cheltenham College Junior School, moving to Dulwich College in 1986, where he became Housemaster of The Orchard. His first Headship was at St Hugh’s, Woodhall Spa, followed by Liverpool College Prep and then the Junior King’s School, Canterbury where he served for 17 years until retirement in 2017. He is married with three children. His interests include fine arts, sports and travel.

Melanie Williamson. OC. Educated at Wycombe Abbey, Cranleigh and Kent School USA (ESU Scholar). Married to an OC with 2 daughters, one at Cranleigh and one an OC. Spent 11 years as a Senior Publicist at BSkyB, before setting up as a freelance publicity consultant. Founder of OC Ladies Hockey Club. Interests: Film, all sports, travel, music.

The Rt Revd Andrew Watson, Bishop of Guildford

Andrew Watson, the Bishop of Guildford, is the School’s Visitor. He preaches once a year in the School Chapel, either in a normal evensong, special occasion or at a confirmation service. He advises the Governing Body on matters of faith and ethos when requested although he does not sit on the Governing Body.
