Forget Euro 2016, Top Pitch was where the action was last Friday evening, with the boarders trying their hand – or should that be ‘foot’ – at human table football. The children played in a giant inflatable pitch and could only move side to side along poles that stretched the width of the playing area.

Whilst the 2, 2, 1 formation may not have pleased the football purists, it certainly made for some entertaining and competitive matches.

Thankfully, the attending matrons (complete with their buckets and ‘magic’ sponges) did not need to come onto the pitch, but this may have been more through fear of upsetting the fearsome manager of the event, Mr Jose Manning-Mourinho.

Whilst spectators and WaGs munched on the excellent BBQ provided by the kitchen, another surprise was on its way.

Accompanied by the dulcet tones of classics such as ‘Greensleeves’, and ‘Popeye the sailorman’, there came an ICE CREAM VAN!! Sixty five Flake 99s later, the boarders returned to their boarding houses tired, but very happy.
