The U11A boys team (James, Jamie, Henry, Evan, Jonty, Louis, Monty, Christian and Bill) headed off to Tonbridge on Monday morning for the IAPS Regional Hockey Championships, after the event had already been cancelled twice.

They played six games in a very difficult pool, winning 3, drawing 2 and losing 1.  They managed to squeeze through in 2nd place and into the Cup Quarter Final.

The boys went on to beat Eagle House (1-0) to move into the semi-finals and secure a place at the national finals on Wednesday 21st March. In the semi-final they drew 0-0 with Edgeborough after extra-time, but held their nerve in the shootout to win 2-0 and make the final.

The final was a high quality, high scoring match against Sutton Valence, the team they lost to 0-1 in the first match of the day. Snatching a late goal to tie the game at 2-2, the match went into golden goal extra-time; it was the opposition who broke the deadlock and won the title.

Mark Pearn, coach, says “I was extremely proud of all the boys, they played with great team spirit and it’s a fantastic achievement to be runners up at the Regional Championships. I look forward to seeing how they get on at the IAPS National Hockey Finals in a few weeks”.
