We are delighted to announce the opening of the Pre-Prep section of Cranleigh Prep School, which means children from the age of five can now ‘find their superpower’ thanks to a Cranleigh education.

Today, Cranleigh Prep School opens its doors to five and six year old pupils for the first time, adding more new faces to its already vibrant community. The school first opened its doors 1913, becoming co-educational twenty five years ago. It has been a mainstay of the education scene in Surrey for more than a hundred years.

The new Pre-Prep offering has been spearheaded by new Head Will Newman, who joined the school in January this year. Mr Newman hopes that widening access to the school will mean more local families will be able to send their children to Cranleigh, taking advantage of the amazing facilities and flexibility of care that the school has to offer.

Will Newman, Head at Cranleigh Prep School said: “What makes our school really special is the combination of small class sizes, welcoming community and the opportunities provided that enable us to discover every pupil’s superpower. Whether their abilities lie in performing arts, sports, academics or all three, we’ll help them to develop their passions and reach their goals. As soon as I came here I wanted to extend that offer to even younger pupils and we’ve moved unbelievably quickly to make this a reality.”

He continued: “Whether you’re looking to join at 5, 7, 11, or any year in between, Cranleigh Prep provides a nurturing and inspiring environment for children. It’s a wonderful school in a beautiful location, with more than 100 staff across our teaching and bursarial departments. I’m looking forward to welcoming all our new starters this year, especially our newest Cranleighans. If they stay with us all the way through, they’ll graduate in 2038, which is mindblowing, when you think about it.”

To mark the occasion, the school has purchased two new pear trees which will be added to the orchard, first planted in 1947 to mark the end of the Second World War. Each new 2025 Pre-Prep child will take home a ranunculus bulb to plant in their own garden and care for during the year.

The pre-prep opening is just phase one of a series of exciting developments at the prep school, with the addition of nursery and reception classes to be added in September 2026 in a purpose-built addition to the campus.
