South East Regional Rocket Competition

Future engineers take flight! Year 7 & 8 pupils spark a passion for STEM at the UKROC regional rocket competition.

Fourteen enthusiastic Year 7 and 8 pupils recently took part in the UKROC South East Regional Rocket Competition, showcasing their ingenuity and determination as they launched their rockets – Laika, Firecracker, and Stellanauta.

The journey to launch day was not without its challenges. From technical setbacks to last-minute adjustments, the team demonstrated remarkable resilience, problem-solving skills, teamwork and patience throughout. Each obstacle became an opportunity to learn, and the pupils rose impressively to every challenge they faced.

While this year’s results were not defined by rankings or scores, the true success lay in the progress made between launches and the pupils’ growing confidence and capability. More importantly, the experience helped ignite a genuine passion for engineering and science.

The pupils were highly commended for their enthusiasm, conduct and commitment, representing our school with pride and maturity. Their willingness to aspire, persevere and do their very best was truly admirable. There is no doubt that among them are future rocket scientists and engineers in the making.
