It was an early 9am start for our boys as they set off for their first rugby sevens experience at Feltonfleet on Saturday. There were eight schools taking part; Feltonfleet, Aldro, Cranleigh Prep, Downsend, Haslemere Prep, Hawthornes, King’s House and Thomas’s Clapham.  The schools were split in to two groups, with Cranleigh Prep competing against Aldro, Downsend and Haslemere Prep initially.  We played a superb first game against Downsend, winning 26-0 so the boys came off the pitch buzzing, wanting to play more.  Their second game against Haslemere was a tougher, more physical match, which unfortunately they lost 7-0, although it was a close game.  Their final match was against Aldro, who had a physically bigger  side; we lost 21-7, which meant CPS didn’t get through to the cup semi-finals.

However, we did get through to the plate semi-finals, where we beat Thomas’s Clapham 14-0. Our team had improved since the last game, having worked out they had to tackle harder when playing against physically bigger boys, using their pace to their advantage.  With these tactics in place, the boys played with flair and went on to win the final with an impressive 45-0 against Feltonfleet, therefore winning the plate.
